Devenir des apports terrigènes autour du Grand Nouméa (Décembre 2016 - Avril 2017) ArchiMer
Desclaux, Terence; Hubert, Clarisse; Le Tesson, Eric; Lemonnier, Hugues; Petton, Sebastien; Royer, Florence; Soulard, Benoit; Schohn, Thomas; Le Gendre, Romain.

Monitoring austral and cyclonic swells in the “Iles Eparses” (Mozambique channel) from microseismic noise ArchiMer
Barruol, Guilhem; Davy, Celine; Fontaine, Fabrice R.; Schlindwein, V.; Sigloch, K..
We deployed five broadband three-components seismic stations in the Iles Eparses in the south-west Indian Ocean and on Mayotte Island, between April 2011 and January 2014. These small and remote oceanic islands suffer the effects of strong ocean swells that affect their coastal environments but most islands are not instrumented by wave gauges to characterize the swells. However, wave action on the coast causes high levels of ground vibrations in the solid earth, so-called microseismic noise. We use this link between the solid earth and ocean wave activity to quantify the swells locally. Spectral analyses of the continuous seismic data show clear peaks in the 0.05–0.10 Hz frequency band (periods between 10 and 20 s), corresponding to the ocean wave periods...

Tropical Forest Reorganization after Cyclone and Fire Disturbance in Samoa: Remnant Trees as Biological Legacies Ecology and Society
Elmqvist, Thomas; Stockholm University; thomase@system.ecology.su.se; Wall, Maria; Stockholm University; fredwall@club-internet.fr; Berggren, Anna-Lena; Stockholm University; Anna-Lena.Berggren@o.lst.se; Blix, Lisa; Stockholm University; lisa.blix@lrf.se; Rinman, Ulrika; Stockholm University; ulrika.rinman@sjv.se.
In disturbed rain forests, large, living remnant trees may be of significant importance for postdisturbance reorganization either directly, by producing large quantities of seeds, or indirectly, by attracting vertebrate seed dispersers. In addition, remnant trees may also be important in providing a favorable microhabitat for seedlings of late-successional species. This study focused on the role of large remnant trees (> 40 cm dbh) in patterns of regeneration after cyclone and fire damage in the Tafua and Falealupo Rain Forest Preserves, Savaií, Samoa. At Tafua, 10 large trees at each of two sites (one site burned in 1990) were investigated with regard to numbers of species and densities of plants from three different size classes at...
